Finalizing payment with companies in China

I am ordering supplies for the first time from China, and is it true they only do T/T payments. Which is basically wire transfers. They sent me all of their bank information and are now waiting for me to make my payment.. I am not used to doing business this way, I just want to know if this is normal when doing business with companies overseas. Or am I being naive?

Thank you. I found them on Trade Key. They had a minimum order which was still too high for me, and I begged teh sales rep if they can give me half the units they are asking for. She said that usually they take 30% deposit on the order til receivede then the remaining upon delivery, but since I am asking for very little they wanted full payment. The amount was very little only $369, but she followed up a couple of days after everything went thru, and was going over details of shipping and shipping marks, etc. So I hope it's legit, otherwise she wouldn't continue working with me. Anway, if it's a scam...then a lesson learned, if not then it worked out.

Yes, they normally asked for T/T payments but you have to know the supplier first. There are a lot of scram out there.

I agree with Melody that you should look at and negotiate alternative payment options before finalizing and in particular, when there isn't a history of sales with the Chinese supplier. An alternative could be a L/C (Letter of Credit) which would have to be arranged by your bank. These can be expensive, however, depending on the dollar value of your order, it can provide some level of assurance to both the purchaser and supplier that payment & delivery will occur as negotiated.

In my opinion, any professional, legit company will offer alternatives to wire transfers. You have very little (if any useful) protection when you pay by wire transfer. If they insist that there is no way, point them to Paypal China:
