I have been feeding my dogs Primal dog food. The nuggets for smaller dogs, Chicken, Duck, and Turkey/Anchovies.
Well they say raw food is one of the better foods to feed your dog, but since I have been feeding them Primal for the past 5 months, I noticed that my Pomeranian's fur is not as shiny or lustrious as before, and my Papillon's fur is dull, thinning, and has a huge bald area on her chest and it was getting worse.
They are both energetic and everything is fine other than their…

I am ordering supplies for the first time from China, and is it true they only do T/T payments. Which is basically wire transfers. They sent me all of their bank information and are now waiting for me to make my payment.. I am not used to doing business this way, I just want to know if this is normal when doing business with companies overseas. Or am I being naive?

I just heard about the most amazing idea for providing a value added offer for a dog food promotion. Instead of providing a coupon wouldn't it be cool to insert a shrink wrapped DVD into the package that would provide owners with insight into overall Dog Wellness. I heard of one DVD that is amazing for this and could be inserted at a fraction of the cost of an actual coupon giveaway. The DVD is a Therapeutic Canine Massage Video shot in HD great quality and can be packaged with an interstitial…

Fish meal in pet foods for dogs and cats. There's a regulation that fish meal with a specific percentage of fat must contain the preservative ethoxoquin. Exactly what percentate of fat requires the addition of ethoxoquin? Does anyone know or know where we can find that information? Thanks so much!

It always amazes me when I encounter questions or comments from either the pet food feeding public or fellow members of the pet food industry regarding unique or exotic ingredients. Ms. Danielle Park, whom I presume is not a member of the pet food community, based on her question, posted a question on the PF-Connection one Sept. 22 regarding the use of kangaroo, beaver, emu and ostrich in pet foods. Mr. Jeffrey Bond responded to Ms. Park that he thought that the idea of one of these sources…

For any petfood manufacturer with brands being made in the US, the issue of how, when and whether to report a potential safety or quality problem just got simpler--sort of.
Starting September 8, all food manufacturing facilities must now report any serious safety problem directly to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through its new Reportable Food Registry…

At the risk of getting giddy or overconfident, the petfood industry has reason to celebrate. Most industries and business sectors around the world are still really struggling in this down economy. Sure, we're seeing signs of recovery (or at least that we've hit bottom), but it's still tough out there for most businesses and consumers.
Yet among all the dismal news and financial reports, one of the most consistent bright spots is petfood. Consider big conglomerates like Nestle Purina,…

Recently someone described to me what he sees as two basic regulatory approaches:
1. If it’s done right, all will be right—which seems to be the European Union (EU) model; or
2. If all turns out all right, it must have been done right—the US approach.
Now, this is a very simplistic view of a very complicated issue, and it was part of a casual conversation, not an educational or information-oriented venue. But considering all the pending legislation in the US that could…

As you may be aware, AFIA’s Ingredient Approval & Definition Committee (IADC) recently sent a letter to AAFCO urging the organization to consider
“recognizing” FDA’s GRAS process by listing the ingredients in which FDA issues a “no questions asked letter” in the AAFCO Official Publication.
Keep in mind the FDA has only noted verbally they will promulgate the rules…

Hello every one !
Can anyone give a substitution of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) in cat-petfood ?
This authorised additive in Europe is incorporated at very low rate (round 0,5 %) to acidify urine, and so to avoid struvites.
I have written the same request in the Ingredients and Nutrition Group, but do not have any answer yet ... Maybe they are all on holidays !
Thanks for your ideas.

To respond to Debbie Phillips comments on consumer activism: I too think there are various reasons people become activist, and that is reason for my title.
The Good, entails consumers that want to find out the truth about what is going on when some issue comes up. Most of us have unfortunately, become accustom to not believing what we hear, read, are told, nor most of what we see. We assume that we are being lied to or at best, not being told the whole truth. Part of this comes from…

Did you notice the "Quick Poll" on the main page? From time to time, you'll be seeing a poll in that space. This time, we're trying to learn how many of you need formal "continuing education units" for your job. We've kept the poll brief, but we're interested in hearing more. If you have further comments, please add them to this blog post.
At Petfood Forum this year, we at Petfood Industry heard industry professionals asking our speakers about continuing education opportunities,…
