GRAS ingredients should be listed in AAFCO Official Publication

As you may be aware, AFIA’s Ingredient Approval & Definition Committee (IADC) recently sent a letter to AAFCO urging the organization to consider “recognizing” FDA’s GRAS process by listing the ingredients in which FDA issues a “no questions asked letter” in the AAFCO Official Publication.

Keep in mind the FDA has only noted verbally they will promulgate the rules… Continue

substitute to ammonium chloride

Hello every one !

Can anyone give a substitution of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) in cat-petfood ?

This authorised additive in Europe is incorporated at very low rate (round 0,5 %) to acidify urine, and so to avoid struvites.

I have written the same request in the Ingredients and Nutrition Group, but do not have any answer yet ... Maybe they are all on holidays !

Thanks for your ideas.

Part of this comes from… Continue

Take our survey!

Did you notice the "Quick Poll" on the main page? From time to time, you'll be seeing a poll in that space. This time, we're trying to learn how many of you need formal "continuing education units" for your job. We've kept the poll brief, but we're interested in hearing more. If you have further comments, please add them to this blog post.

At Petfood Forum this year, we at Petfood Industry heard industry professionals asking our speakers about continuing education opportunities,… Continue

Consumer activism and petfood

It seems as though nearly every day brings a new report, article or blog post from a consumer group or even an individual consumer questioning the safety, ethics or motives of the pet industry and/or leveling an accusation of bad products or practices. Often these are aimed at petfood; in fact, since the 2007 petfood recalls in the US, consumer activism among pet owners has climbed to an entirely new level, and more and more petfood manufacturers and marketers are landing in the cross… Continue
