Hi! Can anyone tell us where I can find recent statistics on the growth (or lack of) of kibble puppy food and hypo-allergenic kibble foods for dogs with food allergies? Thanks!

GRAS and state recognition

It came to most folk’s surprise that GRAS would not immediately be recognized by states simply by addition to the AAFCO manual. However, I’m not that surprised. In short, the FDA has now identified three tiers of “safety” concerns for the ingredient “approval” process:

Is plankton coming to a petfood near you soon?

I was very interested to read Greg Aldrich's article on plankton in "Petfood Industry" May 2009.

Humanization. The human-animal bond. Pets as family members. For several years now we’ve all heard, and used, these phrases as reasons for the petfood industry’s continued growth, especially in developed markets. As more and more consumers pamper their pets and elevate them to same level as human family, they’ve been willing to spend more on petfood.

Naturally, many of you have oriented your brand and product marketing toward this trend. But as an industry, are we missing a huge… Continue
