Thanks for your feedback, Jean. As perhaps further proof that HSUS is doing this for the money, a group called the Center for Consumer Freedom took out a full-page ad in the New York Times today, accusing HSUS of failing to allocate a significant a…

Your analysis is spot-on. However, the relationship between HSUS and industry are not quite so adversarial. HSUS has always received huge donations from the pet food industry. They aren't doing this alone--I don't know who is formulating and manufac…

No part of the global economy has been immune to the recession--not any specific industry nor region. But the good news for our industry is that petfood has weathered the storm relatively well and even has grown in most parts of the world. From 2004…

What do you think about the new dog food from HSUS?

Did you hear the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is coming out with a line of dog food? It's called Humane Choice , and HSUS says it is cruelty free, all natural and certified organic. The main protein source is soy.

I’m not surprised by the type of product HSUS is launching nor its professed reasons: “to offer consumers a wholesome and nutritious dog food that does

Reporting a safety problem

For any petfood manufacturer with brands being made in the US, the issue of how, when and whether to report a potential safety or quality problem just got simpler--sort of.

Starting September 8, all food manufacturing facilities must now report any serious safety problem directly to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through its new Reportable Food Registry portal.

Sure, we're seeing signs of recovery (or at least that we've hit bottom), but it's still tough out there for most businesses and consumers.

Yet among all the dismal news and financial reports, one of the most consistent bright spots is petfood. Consider big conglomerates like Nestle Purina, for exampl… Continue

Thanks for the information and the kind welcome! Will definitely check out the Marketing discussions. I'd also appreciate it if you had contact information for David Lummis you might be able to share. I'm very familiar with Dr. Becker's work, which I reference in Fit As Fido! Thanks again! Dawn

Thanks! I have to find one with both my pups that I can crop down. I don't want Kate to be jealous that Rocky is getting all the publicity (though he is much more photogenic!).
