Petfood-Connection

We all have them: those guilty feelings over not keeping up with industry colleagues and business contacts, the need to make more connections to create more business.

Petfood Forum 2010 and Petfood Workshop: Hands-on Nutrition offer many, many opportunities for networking with longtime colleagues, meeting new industry peers and making those all-important business connections.

From the opening reception the evening of Monday, April 12, to lunch after the last conference sessions on Wednesday, April 14, Petfood Forum includes at least 10 scheduled networking opportunities--and that doesn't count all the informal conversations in the hallways, exhibit hall aisles or in the Petfood Forum Party Zone after hours!

Petfood Workshop also offers a reception and several meals and breaks for you to fill up not only on food and drink but also on conversation and connections with colleagues.

There's still time to register; and if you register for both events, you'll save up to 20% on your Petfood Workshop registration.

Why can't we obtain answers to general questions on the Petfood Connection site ?
I have not understand utility of this site ? ? . . .
Regards Regis
Hi Regis:

This is a social networking site, essentially run by its members. So if anyone wants or feels qualified to respond to questions, they can and will. I would suggest posting your questions in several places on the site (for example, in a Nutrition Group discussion thread or on that page if it's a nutrition-related question).

Thanks,
Debbie
Hello Debbie,
I have done as you said.
I have posted my questions on 3 differents groups of the site :
- Processing Extrusion ;
- Safety, testing, quality ;
- Nutrition and Ingrdedients.
and I did not receive any answer ! . . .
In fact, the site is not really there to help people wotking in petfoods . . .
Regards. Regis
Hi Regis:

I'm sorry you haven't found this site helpful; I'm afraid we can't control how much (or if) people interact or answer each other's questions.

I did pose your question about the stability of certain ingredients (taurine, lutein), etc. during production to our nutrition panel during Petfood Workshop last week. The consensus response was that there have been degradation tables published over the years, most recently in the 2006 Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats published by the National Research Council in the US (available for purchase online).

The panel members also suggested partnering with your suppliers to run tests and determine just how much degradation occurs in your specific processing with the specific ingredients you are using.

Thanks,
Debbie
Thank you for your answer Debbie.
In fact, as you may know, taurin is produced for babyfoods and petfoods mainly in China. European petfood producers buy it by resalers. It's not so easy to get technical informations from them . . .
For lutein I got informations from alfalfa producers.
But for the the other carotenoids capsanthin and zeaxanthin, I did not find anything. As you advise, I will look in the 2006 Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats published by the National Research Council.
Best regards.
Regis
nb : for me, it seems that Petfood Connection site is much used to make some marketing communication about what people has to sale . . . but not to share experiences or knowledges in petfoods . . .
I also think the same thing
As communities grow, participation increases. It takes time for any online community to take off.

However, experts in this field are very busy people. As Debbie said, the administrators cannot control the level of participation. People are what makes a community. The alternative would be to hire resident experts, which I can only assume would result in the community having a paid membership like most professional communities do. We are fortunate that this one is open to the general public at no charge.

This is a community where professionals can network with their peers. It isn't intended to replace the need for hiring your own experts in the field like other pet food manufacturers do. When people take the time to help you, it's a favor, not an obligation.
